MOSCAD (MOtorola SCADa) is a Motorola product specifically designed to meet the specifications of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. MOSCAD facilitates SCADA system expansion in order to enhance the performance of remote installations. MOSCAD components are integral within many communications networks, and are used in a diverse array of government and industry arenas, such as emergency response, water monitoring, fire service/station alerting, electric power distribution and irrigation control systems. MOSCAD technology combines both intelligence and communication to reliably automate an entire system.

The entire MOSCAD control system is comprised of the SCADA central computer as a master station, which communicates with Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) over various communication links, such as conventional radio, trunked radio, microwave, wireline or dial system (telephone). Four types of RTUs are available, including the ACE3600, MOSCAD, MOSCAD-L and MOSCAD-M. See Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) for more details.

This communication system is used for transmitting alarms, status information, telemetric readings, calculated data, diagnostics and error logging information from the RTUs to the central facility computer and vice versa. It is also used for downloading, monitoring and debugging the application program at the site.
